The Art of Line
June 1 - June 29, 2013
Artist Opening: Saturday June 1, 6-9pm
Marietta is best known for her striped acrylic on canvas paintings, featuring bright colors and brush line work. For her new show, she focuses on that same style of painting but also translates it onto watercolor paper, using intricate line work as the standout style. The acrylic on canvas pieces focus primarily on imagined places, allowing a viewer to wonder where it could exist and who might live there. The watercolor pieces focus on line work with limited color. At first glance mountains, then ocean, then mountains again. In all of her art, Marietta pulls from a combination of imagination and reality, inspired by things that have caught her attention or captured her curiosity.
Originally from Tarrytown, New York, Marietta moved to Boston in 1998 to attend the Art Institute of Boston, graduating in 2002 with a BFA in Illustration. She has participated in numerous juried shows throughout the country over the last few years, including Space 242 in Boston, South Shore Arts Center in Cohasset and The Delaplaine Visual Arts Education Center in Frederick, MD. In 2011 she helped to cofound the Dedham Square Artist Guild, the first artist run cooperative gallery in Dedham, Massachusetts. In 2012 she participated in the Dedham Public Art Project, with the honor of being the first artist chosen. Again in 2012 the Dedham Public Art Project asked that she help to start off the new utility box art program.
