Constructing a Mosaic

Ever wonder how these are made. These mirrors are by Wendy Birchmire. She starts with a square board and cuts it into a circle. She them cuts the glass pieces and glues on the mosaic pieces to the board. This is a very laborious process. More tomorrow....

Art Transformation

On Monday, Guild Artist, Gary Koeppel,  started washing the utility box and prepping it for white primer. Luckily, it all dried before rain set in. The Box is in a Dedham Civic Pride space in Dedham Square. Gary came back on Wednesday to start his artwork. Hopefully, he will be back today to paint more of his design, depending on the weather. It will be wonderful to see his final design.

This is a program of Dedham Shines, Dedham Public Art Project.

Flowers a growing, Utility Box Project

This utility box on High Street in Dedham is the vision of Guild artist, Marietta Apollonio. It is project sponsored by Dedham Shines Public Art Program. On the request of Dedham Shines, Marietta painted the front of this box last summer. Story here last year of the box painting.

Marietta has gone back this year to complete the box. (photos below). A passerby requested a lady bug on the box. Marietta, gladly added in a cute little lady bug on the box. Stop by and see this box yourself. It is cheerful and very playful.

June Artist of The Month, Marietta Apollonio

Marietta is best known for her striped acrylic on canvas paintings, featuring bright colors and brush line work. For her new show, she focuses on that same style of painting but also translates it onto watercolor paper, using intricate line work as the standout style. The acrylic on canvas pieces focus primarily on imagined places, allowing a viewer to wonder where it could exist and who might live there. The watercolor pieces focus on line work with limited color. At first glance mountains, then ocean, then mountains again. In all of her art, Marietta pulls from a combination of imagination and reality, inspired by things that have caught her attention or captured her curiosity.

Come in to see Marietta's work all this Month
