Trunk show this Friday Night 6-8pm at the Guild

ONE-DAY ARTIST SHOWCASE
BEV FELDMAN
October 10, 2014 6pm to 8pm
Dedham Square Artist Guild Gallery

For as long as I can remember, I have loved making jewelry. Over the years I have experimented with different styles, from making my own clay beads to metalsmithing. In 2011 I discovered chainmaille jewelry on Etsy. I was fascinated by the look of it and decided to try it out. Before long I was hooked; I knew I had found my medium.

My jewelry features handcrafted modern and elegant sterling silver chainmaille jewelry for weddings, special occasions, and every day. The pieces are made primarily from recycled silver made in the US and features freshwater pearls, found items, and hand-forged elements. I am also happy to work with you to create custom pieces!

The Guild Turns 3 today!

DEDHAM GUILD TURNS 3! By Lisa Walker

My guild in Dedham will celebrate it’s third birthday tonight, Saturday, October 4th from 6-8pm. There will be music, food and drink, and a great raffle filled with art. It is the perfect time to visit the guild to meet and purchase directly from the 23 guild member artists.

I am the featured artist of the month at the guild. My “By the Ocean” collection will be featured up front for the party. You can find photos of this collection by visiting my flickr account but I recommend visiting the guild, located at 553 High Street in Dedham, MA to see my work, feel the texture and weight and enjoy the colors of this low fire collection.

WORD, a Dedham Square Artist Guild Artist Challenge by Lisa Walker

The Challenge:

“A picture is worth a thousand words”Is it? Show us! We are challenging all artists working in any medium to create new work with the theme “Word.” Will you translate common expressions such as “there are no words”… “I give you my word”…”word up”? Will you incorporate words into your work? Will you explore a world without words at all? We can’t wait to find out!

This Challenge is open to all artists, working in any medium, who work/reside in eastern Massachusetts. This magnificent show will be hosted in the lower gallery at the Dedham Community Theatre! 580 High Street, Dedham, MA.http://www.dedhamcommunitytheatre.com

I decided to create a tile for this challenge. The piece has an indent on the back side for easy hanging. It can also be used as a trivet, or grouted and incorporated into a tile wall.

My piece is entitled "Pause". Letters are pressed into the surface of the clay... pause... reflect. welcome... change. The words are symbolic for both seasonal change and life change.

Working out the composition and laying the under color.

Laying down the second color grouping of paint

Carving images of the sun or moon "reflecting" onto the water. Carving images of "changing" leaves to reference seasonal change. Enjoying the colors coming through and adding more paint for contrast.

The image is glazed with a clear and the words are unglazed. The tile is ready to be fired in the kiln.

Finished tile
