Press Release

March 19, 2012
The Dedham Public Art Project is in full swing for 2012, with the delivery of 4 large-scale rabbits.  The arts will be hopping all year long – all around Dedham, MA! Modeled after nearly 600 successful public art projects around the country, the Dedham Public Art Project will result in fifteen artist-painted fiberglass rabbit sculptures placed across town in high visibility locations starting in spring 2012.  Each 5’ long/4' high rabbit will be painted by a juried selection of local artists – and each sponsored by local businesses, individuals and organizations. At the conclusion of the public display over several months, the completed sculptures will be auctioned off to support the approved Mother Brook Arts & Community Center in East Dedham.

The 1st rabbit was delivered at the end of January 2012, with Dedham Square Artist Guild Co-Founder Marietta Apollonio, appointed as artist. 4 more rabbits have now been placed with their artists and will be unveiled to the public at the 2nd Annual Dedham Open Studios on May 20th, 2012.

The crouching rabbit sculptures featured in the Dedham Public Art Project are inspired by the iconic rabbits painted on some of the original Dedham Pottery high-fire stoneware produced in Dedham from 1896 and 1943.

The Dedham Public Art Project is being generously managed by Dedham Shines in association with The Dedham Square Artist Guild.
